What are the similarities between world war 2 and modern combat?
Now, i understand this question sounds A. stupid, and B. useless, however i am wondering the major differences between world war 2 (aside from nuclear weapons, which have been improved drastically). For example, could a Bastogne style defense still occur today between to major powers, where either inability to resupply or the natural settings make it impossible for a group to be re-supplied for a long time(aka more than a week). Furthermore, are the weapons currently used that much better than during World War 2. While some tactics may be outdated, are any still in use from 60 years ago(for example, flanking is definately still in use). And anything else really, this is an open ended question which is warranting any response. Thanks
The battlefield has changed dramatically. Now we have J-Stars that fly at high altitude and give constant enemy movement data. The weapons are smarter. The main battle tank “M1 Abrams” could take out every WW2 “Sherman” tank untill it’s ammo was depleted. Evac has improved by the use of Helochopters. Aircraft can’t even be compared, the modern ones are way more advanced. I guess the hand gernade or the side arm has not changed much. The 5 ton suppy truck is still the same basic design.
